Walk the Talk
“Walk Our Talk” and “Talk Our Walk”
This afternoon my daughter and three grandchildren drove into town for a visit. Trying to get together every month or so makes me want to be intentional with every moment we get to share together.
This afternoon was so much fun for all of us enjoying opportunities to play, talk and laugh. The constant conversations ranged from asking questions, to needing help, or wanting to show me something. Quiet didn’t come until I was finally able to successfully get them all down to bed.
I have discovered that what these little ones long for is quality time together. They want my full attention to walk and talk with them throughout every moment we share together.
These moments today reminded me of Jesus who spent time walking and talking with his disciples during the three years He was in public ministry. He had a way of making every moment count. He was intentional with every moment they shared together.
We have heard it said that the most important life lessons are almost always “caught” rather than “taught.” Jesus took advantage of impact moments to teach and influence others, including those with whom He had only a chance encounter.
I long to really make that same kind of difference. When I study God’s Word, I have discovered that I can have an impact as I “walk my talk” and “talk my walk”. I can bless others in the way God has blessed me.
The following scriptures are a reminder to be careful how we live our lives. To be salt-seasoning, and a light, to influence those around us every day of our lives. To provide quality time that is intentional in giving hope, to encourage and offer helpful assistance.
“…Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.” Colossians 4:5 MSG
“So be careful how you act… be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good.” Ephesians 5:15-16 TLB
“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness...” Matthew 5:13 MSG
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you?
I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14 MSG
Let’s live in such a way that we “walk our talk” and “talk our walk” every day, at every opportunity. Let’s be infectious. Let’s be “on purpose” and intentional in our relationships with others. Let’s make every encounter we have filled with potential connection. Let’s take advantage of those impact moments by offering quality time with those who cross our path today.
Blessings,
Cindy
