This month at the Monday night Confident Woman Workshop, we have been focusing on a mini-series topic “Does your tongue need a healing?” It has been helpful for all of us who have been participating in this series, either online or in person, to be reminded that the words of our mouth have POWER. In fact, Proverbs 18:21 AMPC says that “DEATH and LIFE are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].” The MSG translation of this same verse puts it this way “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you CHOOSE.”
One of the take-a-ways I got out of this past Monday was that our words start in the heart (Matthew 15:18). So not only is it important to keep our tongue under control, but it is important to guard our heart above all else, for it will DETERMINE the course of our life and EVERYTHING you do flows from it (see Proverbs 4:23).
With all that is going on in the world around us, it is all too easy to have our thoughts filled with fear, worry, and concern and before we know it, these thoughts have filled our heart and dominated our conversation.
I have been seeking God fervently this week asking that He create in me a CLEAN heart and RESTORE within me a sense of being brand new (see Psalm 51:10). I want to make sure that the “Words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart is pleasing to God who is my rock and redeemer” Psalm 19:14 NLT
I have made a COMMITMENT to make sure the condition of my heart is FREE from the cares and anxieties of the world and the distractions of life (see Mark 4:19).
I have been inspired by scriptures such as Proverbs 15:4 that says “A gentle tongue, with its healing power, is a tree of life." Or Proverbs 16:24 that says "Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body." I want my works to bring LIFE and HEALING, not death or discouragement.
Does your tongue need a healing? Allow God to CREATE in you a clean heart and begin to make time to study and MEDITATE on the Word today so it will OVERFLOW in your conversations and bring LIFE to you and others.
