Keep Calm And Trust God

Keeping calm and trusting God has been extremely challenging over the years for me and especially
when I married my husband in the early 1980’s. He was active duty military and I was immediately faced with living away from family and friends and dealing with constant moves, so I never found I had enough time to really get settled in.
I did NOT like change and every moment I seemed to be faced with yet another challenge. I was also dealing with a husband working seven days a week, while going through flight school. I was lonely, fighting the constant barrage of feeling depressed. It didn’t help that our paychecks would get lost in between moves and we were broke wondering when we would have money for food and gas.
My lifeline quickly became God’s Word. His promises helped me to redirect my thoughts to challenge me to keep calm and trust God to see us through. I even learned how to help my husband study in flight school, by making a cardboard dashboard for him, and sitting next to him, acting like the “control tower” and checking his written flight maneuvers. Over time, I also learned to EMBRACE all the challenges that come with moving. I creatively found ways to enjoy the NEW adventures, and look at uncertainly in the face with determination to trust God to see us through.
I’d like to say life has gotten easier, but I will say that God has been faithful to see me through. His Spirit has helped to remind me:
to CHOOSE to stay calm during setbacks, disappointments and stress
to REFUSE to let life rob my peace and steal my joy
to REMAIN hopeful amid adverse circumstances.
to ALLOW God to work in my life and use trials for good!
Several scriptures have become my lifeline over the years to help me you consider troubles of any kind, to be an opportunity for great joy (see James 1:2-4).
God promises to provide us peace and comfort unlike no other when we come to Him. The problem is we are so worried about things we often forget or refuse to come to Him, even though He has the
power to help us. Consider making on the following promises from God’s Word your lifeline:
“Listen, calm down. Don’t be afraid. And don’t panic …” Isaiah 7:4 MSG
“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen
for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on
track.” Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG
“Be strong! Be courageous! Do not be afraid of them! For the Lord, your God will be with you.
He will neither fail you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT
Allow God to work in your life and use trials for good. Keep calm and trust God to see you through.
