How Do Hear God’s Voice in this Busy World?

You might be wondering how to hear the Father’s Voice in order to make the right decisions in your life.

Like what school you should go to, or what job you should accept.

Answers to these questions aren’t necessarily spelled out in black-and-white in the scripture.

How do you know what decision to make?

I would encourage you to read John 10 where it talks about how the sheep listen to the shepherd’s voice.

In ancient days before there were radio control devices and electronic fencing, shepherds had to spend a lot of time with the sheep since their birth to get them used to his voice.

The sheep would spend hours and hours listening to the shepherds voice. In fact, in a field of 1000 sheep, the shepherd’s core flock would come to him and run to him when he called them.

How can we do this practically in a rushed and busy world?

The Scripture says that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

For me personally, I have been challenged to tithe 10% of my waking hours to being in the Word, scripture and listening to God’s voice.

10% of my waking hours is roughly 1 hour and a half. This works into around 90 minutes. That is not very much time if you consider all of the driving time, grooming time and cooking time that you spend daily.

I’m in the car roughly an hour a day commuting to and from different events.

There are always pockets of time that we can give to God.

How much time was I spending on self entertainment, watching movies or listening to music that doesn’t glorify God? Let me tell you that I was spending roughly 5 to 6 hours a day on my phone and most of that was spent on social media, music or YouTube.

Take this challenge: look at your phone screen time notification to see how long you’re spending every single day on stuff that could hurt your time to listen to God’s voice.

Now carve out portions of your day that you would be spending on your own selfish goals and see how you can work into listening to God’s voice in them!
