Dayenu- That would be enough.

Imagine singing a song that your ancestors have sung for over 1000 years every single year.

This is what our Jewish brothers and sisters are in the habit of doing every pass over- where they remember God’s good gifts for bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

One of their traditional songs is a joyous chorus song with passion and force “Dayenu”

“.... a song that is part of the Jewish holiday of Passover... The song is about being grateful to God for all of the gifts he gave the Jewish people, such as taking them out of slavery, giving them the Torah and Shabbat, and had God only given one of the gifts, it would have still been enough. This is to show much greater appreciation for all of them as a whole.” (Source From Wikipedia)

“If he had done ______, but not ______it would have been enough"

Read the actual song translated from its original Hebrew.

Every time the end of the line was made, the entire family would join in with a yell of gratitude Dayenu! (That would be enough!)

1) If He had brought us out of Egypt. DAYENU!

3) If He had executed justice upon their gods. DAYENU!

4) If He had slain their first-born. DAYENU!

5) If He had given to us their health and wealth. DAYENU!

6) If He had split the sea for us. DAYENU!

7) If He had led us through on dry land. DAYENU!

8) If He had drowned our oppressors. DAYENU!

9) If He had provided for our needs in the wilderness for 40 years. DAYENU!

10) If He had fed us manna. DAYENU!

11) If He had given us Shabbat. DAYENU!

12) If He had led us to Mount Sinai. DAYENU!

13) If He had given us the Torah. DAYENU!

14) If He had brought us into the Land of Israel. DAYENU!

15) If He built the Temple for us. DAYENU!

What has God brought you through in your life or this year even?

Can you write your own Dayenu song about the journey God has taken you through?

Here is a little template to get you started:

If HE had only done_______ Dayenu! (Then that would be enough!)

Could you sing your own version to God and thank Him today?

I am always looking for good deal- so when I saw a vintage couch from the 50’s on OfferUp for $10 (yes, 10$) I raced out there to pick it up!

I met the lady with my husband and we walked inside her storage facility with row after row of garage like doors. The first thing I noticed when we opened the elevator was the smell.

Garages and sheds are usually not the most aromatic in general. Most garages have old clothes, musty sporting equipment, lawn tools, old Christmas decor, and moth ball covered sweaters and other ancient Knick-knacks.

But this storage unit’s smell was a punch to my already sensitive nose.

I got to the 10$ couch and we put it in our truck. I thought, after some light air freshener, we could get rid of the awful smell. I was so wrong. It took three days of intense febreeze, upholstery scrub, deep cleaner and just having it sit outside my house before it started smelling fresh.

This process taught me a spiritual lesson.

One cannot expect to live the new life that God has for them and have the aroma of Christ in their lives, without going through several rounds of deep cleaning and inner scrubbing from the Holy Spirit.

The couch that I picked up had been in that storage unit for years, marinating in the stench of all of the storage and baggage that were in the facility. I could not expect to get that couch smelling fresh after one light air freshener can. I had to do the work and go through the process of cleansing in order to get it smelling fresh and new.

2 Corinthians 2:14 talks about us being the aroma of Christ to everyone who is perishing in this dark world. And so I ask you, how are you being the aroma of Christ around you?

What are some ways that you can take some moments to have the Holy Spirit do deep cleaning in your own life to expose some areas that need to get purified?

Heavenly Father sees you as a treasure. But just like any thrift store find- it might take some TLC to restore you to your full potential. It takes the willingness to go through the purification process to finally reach your potential as a beautiful treasure- filled with the aroma of Christ to this perishing world.

Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the
Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint
you!—Psalm 27:14 TPT

Last week when I left for work, I was surprised to discover a thick fog had enveloped the DC

Metropolitan area. Visibility was difficult and even with headlights on, I found it challenging to see the

road in front of me. With a lack of perspective, the drive to work seemed to take forever. I had to

intentionally navigate my way to the office since it was so hard to see the traffic signal overhead and to

safely make left turns. Once I had settled into my workday routine, I looked out my office window and

noticed the fog had suddenly lifted and visibility had returned to normal.

Most of us at one time or another have experienced a fog of uncertainty as we travel along life’s

journey. It is easy at times like this to want to give up or lose heart when hopelessness and despair

wants to settle in. Maybe you were furloughed and can’t seemed to get a new job, or you have a job

but are miserable from the lack of appreciation from coworkers. So many individuals are challenged by

the circumstances they now face due to the current circumstances surrounding the pandemic.

When hope’s dream seems to drag on and on, the delay can be depressing. But when at last your dream
comes true, life’s sweetness will satisfy your soul.—Proverbs 13:12 TPT

Don’t lose hope my friend. We are all tempted to give up and throw in the towel. Statistics show that

divorce rates will go drastically lower when the couple is committed to work steadily through their

marital issues. Employees eventually see the tables turn in the work environment when they steadfastly

press on with a hopeful attitude. Entrepreneurs reap the reward of growth when they work hard

through challenges and steadily overcome them.

And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we
don’t get discouraged and give up.—Galatians 6:9 TLB

In the darkness of despair and hopelessness we sometimes are faced with in life, we can put our hope in

God who promises to never disappoint or let us down. He is directing our steps and leading us in the

way we should go. He has plans to give us a future and a hope. (See Jeremiah 29:11) In due course, the

fog of uncertainty will lift. So, no matter what challenges come your way, hold onto hope and ask God to

make you a vessel of His hope for others.

I wait [hope] for the Lord to help me [my soul hopes], and I trust [hope in] his word.—Psalm 130:5 EXB
